Laura Boyce

Instructional Practice Director, Teach Plus Philadelphia

​Laura has devoted her career to empowering students in the Philadelphia area to achieve their limitless potential. After teaching high school English and social studies for six years in Philadelphia, she served as an elementary and middle school turnaround principal in Camden, NJ, where her school went from underperforming to the highest-scoring school in the city. She currently serves as Instructional Practice Director for Teach Plus' Philadelphia, where she leads a leadership development program for elementary teachers in the district. Laura holds degrees from Princeton (BA) and Penn (MEd), and she serves on the boards of New Leaders Council Philadelphia and Girls on the Run Philadelphia.

Jennifer Gable

Health Policy Manager, PolicyLab at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia

Gable supports the development and implementation of the center’s policy agenda, and works to ensure that PolicyLab research is well-positioned to influence policy decisions that impact the health and well-being of children and families at the local, state and federal level. She also leads the CHOP Reading Buddies volunteer program for students at an elementary school in West Philadelphia. Gable is a graduate of Muhlenberg College (BA), Fels Institute of Government (MPA), and the Department of Medical Ethics and Health Policy at the University of Pennsylvania (MBE).

Christine Moriarty

Manager of Volunteer Programming at Broad Street Ministry

Christine connects thousands of Philadelphians to one another; bridging the social barriers that turn strangers into neighbors.  The core commitment of BSM is to promote flourishing and belonging by providing services that meet basic human needs with radical hospitality.  Her background in Philosophy/Pre-Law is the bedrock of her commitment to sociopolitical ethics and integrity.  With a Master’s degree in Applied Positive Psychology from the University of Pennsylvania, she pairs scholarship with social responsibility for a better Philadelphia.  Albeit through research or Broad Street Ministry's volunteer program, she strives uncover and curate narratives that create connectedness among Philadelphians.

Harper S. Seldin

Associate, Cozen O’Connor

Harper is an attorney in his firm’s business litigation group. He is pro bono counsel with the ACLU in ongoing litigation on behalf of transgender students’ non-discriminatory access to facilities in public high schools. A former federal law clerk, Harper is also a member of the Toll Public Interest Center Advisory Board and the Law Alumni Society Board of Managers at the University of Pennsylvania Law School, from which he graduated. He is active with the Young Friends of YSRP, which supports the Youth Sentencing & Reentry Project’s work for juvenile justice and policy reform.

Kyle Shenandoah

Multi-office manager & Senior Tax Specialist, H&R Block
A lifelong Philadelphia resident, Kyle is an avid employment advocate and community organizer.  In 2017 and 2018, he spearheaded a successful job fair with several organizations in his South Philadelphia neighborhood. For his work, he received notable accolades including a mayoral citation, city council citation, congressional commendation, and a gubernatorial acknowledgment from PA Governor Tom Wolf. He has dedicated his social media accounts to share job openings throughout the city. 
Officially, Kyle sits on the board of multiple organizations in Philadelphia including: The Philadelphia Millennial Advisory Committee, The Urban League of Philadelphia, SEPTA Citizen Advisory Committee, The Gray’s Ferry Civic Association, Young Involved Philadelphia, and Keeping Philadelphia Beautiful. Passionate about supporting his neighborhood, Kyle uses his background and experience to provide free consulting services to local nonprofits. In May 2018, Kyle was elected as a member of The Democratic State Committee in the 8th Senatorial District and Committeeperson in the 36th ward. 
We are deeply saddened at the sudden loss of Kyle Shenandoah during his time as a Buchholz Fellow, and we join the Philadelphia community in mourning his passing.

  • Kalie Wertz

Kalie Wertz

External Affairs Manager at the Urban Affairs Coalition

She works closely with the UAC management team to uplift the Coalition and their 70+ Program Partners through marketing and communication, board engagement, fundraising, and strategic programs. She especially works with the department of Community and Economic Development, managing the Financial Advancement Network to bring financial education to over 3,000 individuals annually.

As a native Californian, Kalie received her Bachelors from the University of California Santa Barbara, and received her MPA at the University of Pennsylvania's Fels Institute of Government, earning the Public Service Leadership Award for her work in public service throughout her graduate education. She is also an alumni of both AmeriCorps State & National and AmeriCorps VISTA programs.
